Throwback Thursday: The Only Two Yamaha Riders in a Field of Harley-Davidson Darryl Hurst and Kenny Roberts Battle at the Syracuse Mile

We take a trip back in time to 1976, the bicentennial year, for this week’s Throwback. That September, the AMA’s Camel Pro Series made stops at the renowned Syracuse Mile and the New York State Fairgrounds. During one of the turns, Darryl Hurst (No. 34) and Kenny Roberts (No. 2) compete for position. Moreover, Ricky Campbell (number 82) is included. In a field full of Harley-Davidson XR750 race bikes, Hurst and Roberts were the only two riders on Yamaha XS650s, making this picture special. Following a mechanical issue with his bike, Hurst was forced to withdraw, and Roberts finished in third place, behind winners Jay Springsteen and Rex Beauchamp.
