Legend of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) John Force arrived at a rehabilitation facility on Tuesday from a Virginia hospital, but his team stated that he still has a long way to go before fully recovering.

Following a tragic incident at Virginia Nationals last month, the Funny Car driver was still recovering when John Force Racing sent an update. According to the team, Force’s family viewed his release from the hospital as a “significant advancement in his recuperation process.”

“However, medical staff cautioned that the road ahead still is a difficult one,” the players stated. Force is coping with behavioral and cognitive effects of a traumatic brain injury.
