Nigerian cross-dresser Bobrisky has been arrested.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended the well-known cross-dresser, Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, in Lagos State on Wednesday evening.

The agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale, confirmed this during a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters on Thursday morning. According to Oyewale, Bobrisky’s arrest was related to the mutilation of naira notes rather than his identity as a cross-dresser. He emphasized that the arrest was based on suspicion of economic crime.

Bobrisky’s arrest occurred shortly after the Nigeria Police Force announced its inability to apprehend him for alleged same-sex activities due to insufficient evidence. Despite calls for his arrest, particularly after criticism from social media influencer VeryDarkMan, the Police Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Ademola, stated that cross-dressers cannot be arrested as there is no specific law against cross-dressing in Nigeria. Additionally, Ademola noted that there is no evidence to link cross-dressers to the LGBTQ+ community.
