NFL Draft QB rankings for the AFC West

The Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2024 NFL Draft with the same quarterback room as when they entered.

Although that wasn’t what most Raiders supporters would have preferred, the result wasn’t the result of insufficient work. It’s true that Las Vegas made an attempt to sign a franchise quarterback. However, that idea was ruined by other teams.

So, where do Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell stand in relation to the rest of the division as they battle for the starting position heading into the upcoming season?

Although not ideal, the Raiders’ quarterback position is hardly the worst in the AFC West

4. Bo Nix, Zach Wilson, and Broncos’ Jarrett Stidham

The Broncos don’t have a whole lot of answers for “what have you done for me lately” types in this league. Bo Nix is a rookie who has never played in the NFL. Zach Wilson is a former No. 2 overall pick who is trying to turn his career around. Additionally, ever since joining the league, Jarrett Stidham has been, at best, a backup.

The Broncos’ placing of fourth on this list should come as no surprise. They possess the worst quarterback position in the division, at least until one of these men steps up and proves them wrong.

3. Raiders Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell

The Raiders have a better quarterback room than the Broncos, at least for the time being, despite not drafting a quarterback. Nix might grow into a reliable starter, but Denver is still behind Las Vegas for the time being.

In this league, Gardner Minshew has triumphed. The previous season, he kept the Colts competitive. As he enters Year 2, Aidan O’Connell has some encouraging things to look forward to. Even though neither one screams “franchise quarterback,” the Raiders currently have a higher chance of winning than the Denver quarterbacks.

2. Chargers’ Justin Herbert

Two teams with unresolved concerns at the quarterback position are replaced by two teams in the opposite circumstance. Justin Herbert is the franchise quarterback for the Chargers, but right now everything must revolve around him. Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams, and Keenan Allen are no longer with Herbert.

With Jim Harbaugh in charge now, Herbert is entering a new phase of his offensive career. The Chargers, at least, are aware of his potential. Herbert has thrown for more than 4,000 yards three times in four seasons, including a 5,000-yard season in 2021.

1. Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes

Given his recent history of winning back-to-back Super Bowl championships and our current understanding of him, it would be challenging to place Patrick Mahomes lower than the top quarterback in the whole league. Calling him the best quarterback in the NFL is a very well-known conclusion, and it has been for a few years now.

Mahomes, who joined the league in 2017, has already won three Super Bowls, been selected to six Pro Bowls, and been named an NFL MVP twice.
