Messi to Miami: The soccer player attends the Heat-Celtics game with a few pals.

MIAMI — Lionel Messi watched the Miami Heat on a night off.

Along with teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez, the Inter Miami legend and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner as the best player in the world arrived shortly before tip-off of the Heat playoff game against the Boston Celtics on Monday night.

The party, some of whom were dressed in Heat gear, pulled up to the players’ parking garage, where they were escorted through a VIP entrance and shown to their seats. Messi has visited the arena for at least one prior occasion, but after relocating to Miami last year, he has never made plans to attend a Heat game.

With the most points of any side in the league and a record of 6-2-3 thus far this season in Major League Soccer, Inter Miami holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Messi became the first player in MLS history to contribute to multiple goals in five consecutive games with his two goals and one assist in Inter Miami’s 4-1 victory over New England on Saturday. In seven games this season with Inter Miami, he has nine goals and seven assists.

Messi is among the best goal scorers in soccer history, having scored more than 800 goals for club and country over his career. Messi captained Argentina to the World Cup title in 2022. In the 2022 World Cup final, Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalty kicks after a 3-3 draw. He scored twice in the match.
