Illinois baseball gets defeated by Kentucky baseball to go to the regional final.

This puts the Cats one step closer to qualifying for the Super Regional.

With a 6-1 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini this afternoon, the Kentucky Wildcats persevered in the rain and managed to progress to the Regional Final.

This afternoon, Trey Pooser’s pitching enabled the Cats triumph over the Broncos after yesterday’s game against Western Michigan, where the offense helped UK defeat the Broncos. Pooser gave up five hits and one earned run in 7.0 innings of work to end the evening. He improved to 6-1 on the year with seven more strikeouts. Two home runs each from Ryan Waldschmidt and Ryan Nicholson drove the offense. James McCoy added another double to his post-season tally in the Regional, carrying on with his recent hot streak. Kentucky will now await the victor of Illinois vs. Indiana State, the second encounter in this regional.

Will the Cats win it all tomorrow night, or will Monday’s game have to be a winner-take-all? Hopefully, the UK can wrap things up tomorrow and prepare for hosting a Super Regional.
