Mike Velasco, a renowned and extraordinarily gifted technician, fought valiantly against several health issues before passing away last night.

Velasco’s incredible adventure started at the beginning of the US Superbike era. He traveled with the Pops Yoshimura team as they pursued their Kawasaki racing goals, and he was instrumental in the manufacturing and maintenance of bikes. His skills eventually brought him to Honda, where he worked as a factory technician for famous riders like Bubba Shobert, Freddie Spencer, and Fred Merkel.

Velasco and the late Merlyn Plumlee formed the illustrious mechanic duo known as “The Burner Brothers” in the 1980s.
