The former Tennessee Titans scout accused of poisoning his pregnant girlfriend to death is facing the possibility of a life sentence.

Blaise Taylor, aged 27, was arrested and charged with the alleged poisoning of his girlfriend, Jade Benning, and their unborn baby.

The former Tennessee Titans scout accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend made his first court appearance on Wednesday, with the district attorney seeking a life sentence in prison.

Blaise Taylor, aged 27, stands accused of poisoning his girlfriend, Jade Benning, resulting in the deaths of both her and her unborn child. U.S. Marshals apprehended Taylor in Utah, acting on an indictment from the Nashville police. Prior to his arrest, Taylor had been employed by the Tennessee Titans.

Due to the death of the unborn child, Taylor faces two first-degree murder charges. It is believed that Taylor was the father of the child.

On February 25, 2023, Jade Benning was rushed to the hospital after Blaise Taylor called 911, stating that Benning was experiencing an allergic reaction. Unfortunately, Benning’s condition deteriorated rapidly, preventing her from speaking to the police before she passed away. She was five months pregnant at the time of the incident. Tragically, the baby also succumbed to the effects of the poisoning on February 27. Jade Benning tragically passed away on March 6, which happened to be her 25th birthday. These events unfolded in Nashville.

On Wednesday, Blaise Taylor appeared in a Nashville court via video conference. Fox 17 News obtained a notice of intent from the district attorney’s office, indicating their pursuit of a life sentence without the possibility of parole for Taylor.

The District Attorney’s office is prosecuting Blaise Taylor for life in prison on behalf of the State of Tennessee, asserting that the murder was knowingly committed, solicited, directed, or aided by the defendant.

Taylor was employed as a scout with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 to 2023, as confirmed by the team to Fox 17 News. His bond hearing is scheduled for April 15.

According to Jade Benning’s obituary, she dedicated her career to culinary pursuits, serving as the head pastry chef at Mirabellas Table and a chef at Earnest Bar & Hideaway. Additionally, she operated her own catering business, JTB Eatery, in Nashville.

“To know Jade was to love Jade. She had a smile that would light up the room, a laugh that was contagious, and a heart that loved everyone,” the obituary beautifully expressed.
