With a 0.33 ERA and 29 strikeouts in four outings in July, Hunter Greene was undoubtedly outstanding. He started last Saturday against the Giants, carrying over his July performance into August. Despite just playing six innings, he managed to record one hit, no runs, eleven strikeouts, and one walk.

How, therefore, is he succeeding? He has been permitting fewer fly balls, to start. At 31.2%, his fly ball percentage is four percentage points lower than it was a year ago. As a result, this season has seen a minor increase in his GB% to 36.6%. This is mostly due to the fact that this season, hitters haven’t hit as many home runs off of his fastball. Last year, Greene gave up 12 home runs.
