Dak Prescott expresses his opinions about the Dallas Cowboys’ extension after having a “great conversation.”

Entering his final season with the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott will become a free agency the following offseason if an extension is not agreed upon by both sides.

Though neither party appears to be in a rush to lock down star quarterback Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys are eager to lock him down to a long-term contract.

The Cowboys have already stated that they will not be letting their signal-caller leave this offseason because they believe he is the team’s future. But if and when his new deal is finalized, Prescott should become one of the NFL’s highest paid players.

Even while the Cowboys are eager to complete the acquisition, they are also aware of their salary cap and need to leave space for other important players, such as dynamic wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and excellent pass-rusher Micah Parsons. Negotiations for a new deal have not yet begun, but Prescott said that he had a chat with owner Jerry Jones about a month back.

Prescott said, “I’m focused on where I am at this moment. I’ve always been that way. Whenever you’ve asked, my response has always been, “Now, let’s get better tomorrow.” It’s okay, I’ve been in this predicament before. At that moment, I don’t mind beingt on myself or finishing the year out in any circumstance.”

The Cowboys run a serious risk if they don’t sign Prescott to a new deal before the season begins. Prescott would be free to go elsewhere the next offseason if there was no deal, which would have allowed other clubs to sign him without having to give up any draft picks.

With Prescott’s astounding $55 million cap impact this year, the possibility of a trade was very real ahead of the 2024 season. If his contract is extended, this amount might be significantly lowered, freeing enough money to compensate Parsons and Lamb. Though no talks have started as of yet, there are concerns regarding the Cowboys’ long-term commitment to keeping Prescott.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has discussed a new contract with Dak Prescott.

He also hinted at the potential of leaving the team after this season, even if he insisted he is not concerned about the lack of talks about a new contract. “I’m not going to say I fear being here or not,” he said. To be quite honest with you, I have no fear of either scenario. I adore playing this game and trying to improve not only as a player but also for my teammates.”

It’s with the Dallas Cowboys at the moment. That’s the focal point, where I am, where I want to be. After this season, we’ll assess our current situation and see whether that remains true going forward; if not, we’ll take it from there.”

After having one of his best seasons ever in 2023—throwsing 36 touchdowns and only nine interceptions—the 30-year-old quarterback is hoping to land in a high salary range.
