Brian Callahan, from the Tennessee Titans, speaks out about the team’s loss of Derrick Henry.

The potential pairing of Derrick Henry with the Baltimore Ravens could be the ideal free agency match this offseason. However, the Tennessee Titans are now faced with a significant gap to address in their backfield. Titans head coach Brian Callahan addressed the challenge of replacing Henry directly during the NFL Annual Meeting, much like linebackers and defensive backs have attempted to do in the past.

Following Derrick Henry’s departure to the Baltimore Ravens, the Tennessee Titans are preparing for life without him by turning to the dynamic duo of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears in the backfield. Titans head coach Brian Callahan expressed confidence in this new pairing during the annual NFL meetings, highlighting their ability to score touchdowns, explosiveness, agility, and proficiency in catching the ball out of the backfield.

Callahan remarked to reporters during the NFL meetings last week, stating, “That’s a pretty formidable one-two punch. Two guys that both can score touchdowns, they got some explosiveness and make-you-miss in their game and catch the ball out of the backfield.”

Pollard joins the Titans after a strong 2023 season, rushing for 1,005 yards, marking his second consecutive season with over 1,000 rushing yards. As for Callahan, his inaugural season as an NFL head coach will involve a revamped backfield and the development of second-year second-round quarterback Will Levis.

With the Titans aiming to alleviate pressure on Levis while emphasizing the running game, Callahan believes that Pollard and Spears can replicate much of Derrick Henry’s success. Despite Henry’s departure, Callahan sees the duo as interchangeable, each bringing unique skill sets that contribute uniquely to the offense.
