Baseball in Kentucky ends a record regular season.

KY — LEXINGTON The postseason has arrived. With 39 wins, including a school-record 22 in league action, No. 2 Kentucky wrapped up its 2024 regular season and secured the Southeastern Conference regular season championship on Friday. Due to conference tiebreaker regulations, it will now travel to Hoover, Alabama as the third seed in the SEC Tournament and go straight to the double elimination stage of the competition. On Wednesday, the Wildcats (39-11, 22-8) will take the field at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 local time.

A proud Vanderbilt squad, maybe playing for its own postseason life, broke up a tie game late to score a 12-4 victory on Saturday at Kentucky Proud Park, making a swift turnaround from Friday night’s historic event not go UK’s way. It was a minor setback during a record-breaking regular season and an otherwise prosperous weekend.

Nevertheless, Emilien Pitre’s safe arrival at base for the 28th straight game and his second straight home run in as many days were Saturday’s highlights. With his 17th home run of the year, Ryan Nicholson now has the third-most in a single season during the Mingione era. With four extra base hits and a major role in both wins, Ryan Waldschmidt finished a blistering weekend 7-for-12, helping UK win its eighth series in ten conference weekends.

Kentucky will receive a bye into the double elimination round of the SEC Tournament to begin play. On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 ct, it will air.
