Following his recent altercation with spotter Tyler Monn, Dale Earnhardt Jr. seems to be supporting Kyle Larson.
The son of the all-time great took to his “Dale Jr. Download” podcast to explain that he could relate to Larson when his temper flared up trying to hold off Denny Hamlin at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“Kyle Larson, I think, is getting a bit tired of the prodding from those individuals that he relies on to support him,” Earnhardt said. We’ve heard and seen this a few times before: his crew chief has a tendency to be quite direct and honest with him about what’s happening or what he feels needs to be done. Really, there was nothing Larson could have done to prevent that.
Simply put, you’re racing, and the moment is intense. He made his statement. Dale Jr. remarked, “You’re like, pretty much that’s the end of the conversation right there. I don’t want to repeat what Larson said.” “The spotters need to be sincere… However, there comes a point where you have to use caution or the driver may retaliate.”
“I believe Larson resolved the situation. “I don’t think they should talk,” Earnhardt said in closing. “It ends the moment you get out of the automobile, every time I’ve experienced that. You don’t talk about it. It’s just the heat of the moment, nothing more.”
Every professional sport involves intense emotions, and certain things are simply too sensitive to take personally.
Moving ahead, Larson and his team will want to finish in the top five at Sunday’s Ally 400 in Nashville.
