Liverpool have issued a powerful response after defender Ibrahima Konate was subjected to racist abuse on social media following a clash with Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
The incident occurred after a challenge left Osimhen with a broken arm, leading to widespread backlash online directed at the French centre-back.
Liverpool were quick to defend their player, condemning the abuse in the strongest terms.
In an official statement, the club said: “It is dehumanising, cowardly and rooted in hate. Racism has no place in football, no place in society and no place anywhere – online or offline.”
They added: “Our players are not targets. They are human beings and the abuse is a stain on the game and on the platforms that allow it to persist.”
Liverpool also called on tech companies to act, stating: “Social media companies must take responsibility and act now.”
The club confirmed full support for Konaté while urging stronger action to tackle online hate.
