A Liverpool player is reportedly heading for the exit in the summer of 2026 following an alleged breakdown in his relationship with head coach Arne Slot.
On Wednesday, February 11, Liverpool edged past Sunderland with a narrow 1-0 victory at a rain-soaked Stadium of Light, thanks to a second-half header from Virgil van Dijk.
That result kept the Reds within striking distance of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for fourth and fifth, with the defending champions currently sitting sixth after 26 league matches.
With only 12 Premier League fixtures remaining, attention has increasingly shifted toward Slot’s future. Despite guiding Liverpool to the title in his first season, the Dutchman has admitted that this campaign has been the most demanding of his career. Failure to secure Champions League qualification for 2026/27 would mark the club’s first absence from Europe’s elite competition in a decade.
Such a scenario could trigger several departures, including Mohamed Salah, who continues to be linked with a summer move. Meanwhile, former Reds midfielder and current coach Xabi Alonso remains strongly tipped as a potential successor, though Slot’s position could be strengthened if Liverpool lift either the FA Cup or the Champions League this season.
Regardless of managerial outcomes, one player widely expected to consider his future is Curtis Jones. The academy graduate has made 32 appearances this season, but started only 13 of his 23 league outings.
According to talkSPORT, the 25-year-old could follow a similar path to Trent Alexander-Arnold by seeking a move abroad, with Inter Milan previously expressing interest. Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly keen, prompting former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant to speculate about the midfielder’s situation.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Pennant suggested that contract issues, interest from rival clubs, and a possible disagreement with Slot may point to a falling-out, although he stressed this was only his personal theory. At present, there is no concrete evidence of any rift between Jones and the manager.
Jones remains under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2027
