GOOD NEWS: Rams HC Sean McVay Reveals the Return of Stetson Bennett and the Full Support of Fans For RAMS

Fans questioned whether they would ever see the Georgia product under center in Sean McVay’s offense after Stetson Bennett chose to leave the Los Angeles Rams last season in order to address personal matters.

After a year, Bennett returns, but this time he plays for a club that is significantly different from the one he left behind since Jimmy Garapolo is now the starting quarterback behind Matthew Stafford.

Nevertheless, as McVay stated in his media availability earlier this week, the team still has expectations for Bennett, a 26-year-old former fourth-round pick who will spend the majority of the season holding a clipboard as the Rams’ backup quarterback. He wants to see his, er, redshirt rookie quarterback flash when his number is called.

“I believe having authority, control, and the ability to enter and exit the huddle. Sean McVay told reporters that calling plays, getting to the line of scrimmage, making sure everyone is in position, sending motions, and then being able to play and trust your instincts after the snap are all extremely important aspects of the quarterback position.

“I want to be able to witness it, and I want to watch him take advantage of this chance to compete. He looks to be having fun, and I’ve seen it in all of the guys when they’re playing at their best. Go ahead, let loose, have fun, and relish it. I feel like we kind of sensed it last year during the first preseason game when he was flashing and acting like that. Consequently, I’m excited to witness that.

Bennett, who was selected by the Rams with the 128th pick overall, is one of the most experienced quarterbacks to enter the NFL in a while. He has made 31 starts for Georgia in college since he first committed to the team in 2017. Interestingly, Bennett is older than Tua Tagovailoa, who is already in his second NFL contract. Bennett will still need to improve in order to get back on track because having a year off from the game is no laughing matter. Thankfully, he has a supportive head coach who is eager to support him throughout the process, which is essential to reviving his career.
